چکیده

Given the important role of lake ecosystems in social and economic development, and the current severe environmental degradation in China, a systematic diagnosis of the ecological security of lakes is essential for sustainable development. A Driving-force, Pressure, Status, Impact, and Risk (DPSIR) model, combined with data screening for lake ecological security assessment was developed to overcome the disadvantages of data selection in existing assessment methods. Correlation and principal component analysis were used to select independent and representative data. The DPSIR model was then applied to evaluate the ecological security of Dianchi Lake in China during 1988-2007 using an ecological security index. The results revealed a V-shaped trend. The application of the DPSIR model with data screening provided useful information regarding the status of the lake's ecosystem, while ensuring information efficiency and eliminating multicollinearity. The modeling approach described here is practical and operationally efficient, and provides an attractive alternative approach to assess the ecological security of lakes.

Development and Application of a New Grey Dynamic Hierarchy Analysis System (GDHAS) for Evaluating Urban Ecological Security

Selecting indicators based on the characteristics and development trends of a given study area is essential for building a framework for assessing urban ecological security. However, few studies have focused on how to select the representative indicators systematically, and quantitative research is lacking. We developed an innovative quantitative modeling approach called the grey dynamic hierar...

Prediction and elucidation of the population dynamics of Microcystis spp. in Lake Dianchi (China) by means of artificial neural networks

Lake Dianchi is a shallow and turbid lake, located in Southwest China. Since 1985, Lake Dianchi has experienced severe cyanabacterial blooms (dominated by Microcystis spp.). In extreme cases, the algal cell densities have exceeded three billion cells per liter. To predict and elucidate the population dynamics of Microcystis spp. in Lake Dianchi, a neural network based model was developed. The c...

Environmental Behavior of PAHs in Dianchi Lake Distributions, Sources and Risk Assessment of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons in Surface Sediments from Dianchi Lake,China

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the priority controlling list of US EPA were systematically evaluated in surface sediments in Dianchi Lake and its estuaries. Total PAH concentrations (ΣPAHs) varied from 210 to 11,070 ng/g dry weight (d.w.) in Dianchi Lake, and from 230 to 12,271 ng/g d.w. in the estuaries. ΣPAHs in sediments from Caohai section were higher than those from Waihai sect...

Case Study on Water Quality Modelling of Dianchi Lake, Yunnan Province, South West China

The main aim of this work was to construct and validate a mathematical water quality model of the Dianchi lake, so that by altering input total phosphate (TP) loads the projected changes in the lake water TP concentrations could be estimated. Historical information had indicated deteriorating lake water quality with increasing TP concentrations. The model was based on a simple annual mass balan...
